➤what’s happening in Web3 across Africa.
Africa’s crypto market increased in value by more than 1,200% between July 2020 and June 2021. Led by especially high adoption rates in Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria and Tanzania, Africa had the third-fastest growing cryptocurrency economy worldwide during that period.
Alongside the overall growth in cryptocurrency trading and transactions across Africa, the last 12 months have seen an accelerated pace of activity across the continent from blockchain networks/protocols, venture capital firms, grant funders, governments and more.
Africa amassed $105.6bn worth of cryptocurrencies in forecasts for the year ending June 2021, driven by peer-to-peer (P2P) transactions in key growth markets.
“P2P platforms are especially popular in Africa compared to other regions, and many African cryptocurrency users rely on P2P platforms not just as an on-ramp into cryptocurrency, but also for remittances and even commercial transactions,” Chainalysis said in the report.

As mentors, they were responsible for giving direction to the participants on how to tackle their problems, how to organize their workflows and setting up the infrastructure for them to start building.
Betty Kirii and Henry Kariuki at the Web3 Gender Hackathon .
Henry was mentoring a group of women who were looking to solve the under-representation of women in sports, especially in marginalized areas in Kenya, through providing them a platform where people endorse them by voting for them.
The players with a certain rating get endorsement and sponsorship from say Adidas. Directly the money goes to their managers who then can reinvest the money for these women. say in yield farming or create NFTs for them.
