➼Ivory Coast-based fintech startup JulayaMoney has raised $5 million to expand its operations in West Africa.
Founded in 2018, Julaya provides businesses with mobile-based digital accounts to make money transfers. The fund was led by European venture capital fund Speedinvest.
Julaya is a B2B digital account that enables companies to send and collect payments seamlessly through a digital account. With the Julaya platform, African businesses can make bulk payments through all mobile money channels, process their travel or online expenses with a corporate prepaid card tailored to their needs, and easily import all transactions into their accounting system.
➼Egypt's e-commerce start-up Mazaya has raised $5m to fund expansion.
Egyptian startup Mazaya, a B2B e-commerce marketplace that focuses on electronics, has raised a US$5 million pre-seed funding round to scale its operations in Egypt and expand into new markets and verticals.The pre-seed funding round was led by a Cairo-based Raya Trade and Distribution unit.
➼Ugandan fintech, numida tech has raised $12.3m pre-Series A funding to extend loans to MSMEs beyond Uganda.
Uganda's first YC-backed startup numida tech has raised $12.3M in a round led by SerenaVentures to fuel the growth of Africa's micro and small businesses. Founded in 2017, Numida is on a mission to grow small African businesses through access to digital and unsecured working capital.
➼SA VC firm KnifeCap has received a backing of $ 50 million for its new African Series B expansion fund.
Knife Capital, a South African venture capital firm, is raising a $50 million fund for startups looking to raise Series B financing. With Knife Fund III called the African Series B Expansion Fund, the firm seeks to directly invest in the aggressive expansion of South African breakout companies. It also plans to co-invest in companies across the rest of Africa.

➼Bill Gates-backed Investing in Innovation (i3) initiative has selected 30 African health tech startups for its $7m fund. Selected startups will receive a $50,000 grant and support to catalyze growth-driven partnerships.
➼ ProvidusBank, Mastercard, Interswitch, and Thales launch contactless Tap-to-Pay transactions via smart devices in Nigeria
They have partnered with ProvidusBank, Interswitch Group and thalesgroup to launch a Tap-to-Pay service. The service allows cardholders to make fast, secure, and convenient in-store payments by tapping their NFC-enabled smart device at any contactless-enabled payment terminal.
The solution works by enabling a connected device such as a smartphone or wearable device to act as a safe and secure payment method like a physical card.
Leveraging Mastercard’s Digital Enablement Service (MDES), and Interswitch’s tokenization capability, ProvidusBank customers can enjoy a new level of convenience, no longer needing a card or a physical wallet during shopping trips.

➼Jumia partners with Zipline to offer on-demand drone delivery services to Africans.
This launch comes after a pilot phase of this logistics service conducted in Ghana a few months ago. The pilot test involved 1 hr delivery from distances as far as 85km from the take-off point, with real-time visibility of the drones for all stakeholders in the process.

Prof Njuguna Ndung’u, the previous Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya, will be joining President Ruto's new cabinet as the Minister of Finance. Prof Ndung'u lauds Kenya's fintech innovations and believes that fintechs can help the country drive financial inclusion and enable citizens to establish more sustainable business models across all sectors of the economy.
